Vortex Scenery Design has recreated Mfuwe Airport (ICAO: FLMF) for Microsoft Flight Simulator, one of Zambia’s most distinctive airports. Located in the Mambwe District in Zambia’s Eastern Province, the airport serves as a vital gateway to South Luangwa National Park, a region well known for its wildlife and safari tourism. Since being declared an international airport in 1995, Mfuwe has handled seasonal international flights alongside domestic services, supporting the country’s growing tourism sector.

The scenery package offers a detailed rendition of the airport with custom-made 3D models and realistic night lighting. Vortex has included animated people, animals, and vehicles that reflect the real-life character of the airfield. A developer-issued NOTAM humorously reminds simmers to “land and take off with extreme caution” due to the presence of wildlife and pedestrians crossing the runway — a situation that mirrors what pilots may experience at remote African airports.

To experience the scenery at its fullest, you will need to install several object and vegetation libraries, including the Animated Humans Library, Ethnicfs Vegetation and Misc Objects libraries, and the Windy Things package, among others. These add enhanced clutter, animated figures, vehicles, and environmental details that bring the airport to life.

Vortex’s scenery contributes to expanding the global coverage of Microsoft Flight Simulator with more diverse airports outside the heavily represented regions of Europe and North America. For simmers interested in exploring safari operations or bush flying in Africa, Mfuwe Airport provides an authentic base in the Luangwa Valley.
